Assisting Singerly Fire Co w/ House Fire

     

Friday, December 30, 2011 12:18  On Friday December 30th North East Fire Co., assisted Singerly Fire Co., on a working house fire that tore through a residential duplex. The fire broke out at 12:18 p.m. at 112 Church St. and quickly spread to the adjoining unit at 110 Church St. multiple people were inside, but all managed to escape unharmed. Two firefighters were injured while battling the blaze The first injury came when a Singerly firefighter's breathing apparatus malfunctioned, causing him to run out of oxygen before he could exit the building. Shortly after that, a Chesapeake City firefighter exiting the duplex collapsed on the front porch. More than a dozen of his colleagues converged around him, paramedics and EMTs began treating him. Both firefighters were taken to hospitals in Elkton & Christiana, De respectively. A total of 50 + firefighters from Singerly, North East, Chesapeake City, Charlestown, Perryville and Rising Sun battled the blaze.
