The
Cecil County Fireman’s Association is hosting a county-wide recruitment night
Thursday, May 17th, at 6pm at the Cecil County Administration Building, located
at 200 Chesapeake Blvd in Elkton. All nine Volunteer Fire Companies will be in
attendance to answer any questions you might have and accept applications for
membership.

Volunteering as a member in the fire
service, you will become part of one of the greatest fraternities ever
assembled. In the beginning of your fire service career you will start to form
everlasting bonds - bonds that reach beyond death and are forged by the union
of a common purpose - to protect life and serve the community. You will feel an
overwhelming sense of accomplishment when you complete the required training
and earn the title of Firefighter or Medical Technician. Fire Service members
live by the creed of “duty, pride and tradition”, believe firmly in the value
of volunteerism, give of themselves selflessly, and ask nothing in return.

Our community’s Fire Service relies on
volunteers like you and in return, you can be eligible for the following
monetary benefits enjoyed by the majority of our members:

Volunteer
Pensions

Throughout the country, but most importantly
here in Cecil County, the Fire Companies are facing difficult times. The County
continues to expand and the population growth brings an increasing number of
emergencies. Our fellow citizens depend on us as to respond when they are in
their greatest need. As a result of increased operations comes increased cost,
and fire companies rely on its members to participate in fundraising as an
essential means to continue our service to the community. HELP IS NEEDED, now
more than ever, and we need everyone to do their part.

Assisting Singerly Fire Co w/ House Fire

  On Friday December 30th
North East Fire Co., assisted Singerly Fire Co., on a working house fire that
tore through a residential duplex. The fire broke out at 12:18 p.m. at 112
Church St. and quickly spread to the adjoining unit at 110 Church St. multiple
people were inside, but all managed to escape unharmed. Two firefighters
were injured while battling the blaze The first injury came when a
Singerly firefighter's breathing apparatus malfunctioned, causing him to run
out of oxygen before he could exit the building. Shortly after that, a
Chesapeake City firefighter exiting the duplex collapsed on the front porch.
More than a dozen of his colleagues converged around him, paramedics and EMTs
began treating him. Both firefighters were taken to hospitals in Elkton
& Christiana, De respectively. A total of 50 + firefighters from
Singerly, North East, Chesapeake City, Charlestown, Perryville and Rising Sun
battled the blaze.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those Brothers
in there time of need, quick recovery & future endeavors.

NEVER FORGET "343"

Early on the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 hijackers took control of four commercial
airliners en route to San Francisco and Los Angeles after takeoff from Boston,
Newark, and Washington, D.C. Planes
with long flights were intentionally selected for hijacking because they would
be heavily fueled. At 8:46 a.m., five hijackers
crashed American Airlines flight 11 into
the World Trade Center's North Tower (1 WTC) and at 9:03 a.m. another
five hijackers crashed United Airlines flight
175 into the South Tower (2 WTC).

Five hijackers flew American
Airlines flight 77 into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. A fourth flight, under the control of four hijackers,
crashed United Airlines flight 93 near
Shanksville, Pennsylvania at 10:03 a.m. after the passengers fought the
hijackers. Flight 93's ultimate target is believed to have been either the
Capitol or the White House. Flight 93's
cockpit voice recorder revealed crew and passengers attempted to seize control
of the plane from the hijackers after learning through phone calls that
similarly hijacked planes had been crashed into buildings that morning. Once it became evident to the
hijackers that the passengers might regain control of the plane, one hijacker
ordered another to roll the plane and intentionally crash it. Soon afterward,
Flight 93 crashed into a field near Shanksville.

The South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m. after
burning for 56 minutes in a fire caused by the impact of United Airlines
Flight 175. The North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m. after burning for
102 minutes. When the North Tower collapsed, debris fell on the nearby 7
World Trade Center building (7 WTC) damaging it and starting fires. These
fires burned for hours and compromised the building's structural integrity and
7 WTC collapsed at 5:21 p.m.

After the horrific events a
total of 2,977 innocent people were killed. Intertwined in that number are 343 firefighters
from the FDNY. Some were fathers, sons, husband & friends but all were
BROTHERS. We in the fire service will
always remember the number of brothers killed in those cowardly acts; you will
always find the numbers “343” on helmets, fire trucks, murals’ and even on each
other’s bodies. Forever in our thoughts
& prayers let us “ NEVER FORGET”.

                “Time is
passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting
September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. ~President
George W. Bush...
